Exciting News from Promise Land Apiaries!

Promise Land Apiaries has been selected as 1 of just 25 beekeeping operations nationwide to participate in groundbreaking research focused on improving genetic diversity and Varroa mite resistance in honey bees.

This multi-season initiative, led by the Northern Queen Initiative, aims to map, test, and elevate resilient bee genetics across a wide range of climates—recognizing that geography and winter hardiness play a critical role in colony survival.

For nearly 25 years, Chris Kelly has been developing a locally adapted strain known as Long Island Survivor Stock. This marks the first time this work will be scientifically measured and evaluated under rigorous conditions—a major milestone in sustainable beekeeping.

In true collaborative spirit, Chris is also exploring partnerships with local high school science programs, inviting the next generation of beekeepers and researchers to contribute to this important initiative.

The future of beekeeping is built on collaboration, scientific research and resilience
