About
Join Master Beekeeper Christopher Kelly of Promise Land Apiaries for a specialty short course designed specifically for practicing beekeepers. Drawing on over 53 years of sustainable, science-based expertise, Chris will guide you through the essential steps to breed good quality queens for your colonies. Get ready to join the Long Island Survivor Stock journey! This series is intended to be a 2 part program. The first part is this short series, to understand why and how we select and breed queens. The second part is the application of this process, and that will come in the field starting in April. Topics Covered: * Choosing a Queen Breeding System for Your Apiary * Quality vs. Characteristic: determine the key traits specific to your queen in your colony. * Queen Marking * Planning for Success: Creating your personalized beekeeping calendar for this year & learning adequate record keeping to help you as the seasons change. This course is ideal for beekeepers committed to natural, survivor-stock methods. You will leave with the knowledge to make informed decisions and a clear roadmap for the season. This series is fully lecture based. Students should feel free to bring a non-electronic device to take notes on, and should come prepared to class with adequate attire for the weather. If you are interested in getting involved with PLA's queen rearing research, this class is a MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITE! 🐝 Course Details: Location: Breeze Hill Farms 31215 County Road - Route 48 Peconic, NY 11958 Dates: March 5th, 12th, & 19th Time: starts at 5:30pm You must register- seating is limited.
