Northern Queen Initiative (NQI)
Promise Land Apiaries has been officially selected to participate in the Northern Queen Initiative (NQI). Out of the entire country, only 25 apiaries were chosen for this program—and we are the only apiary on Long Island to receive this honor!
What is the Northern Queen Initiative?
The NQI is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating and training beekeepers in advanced queen rearing techniques. The mission is to improve the value and production of locally adapted survivor stock queens.
Through this program, we will be focusing on proven techniques with access to elite breeding stock that:

Thrives in Northern cold climates

Exhibits excellent honey production

Possesses a calm temperament

Demonstrates natural mite-resistance
As part of this initiative, we will be strictly following NQI selection protocols, reporting vital records, and working directly with these improved genetics to help strengthen the bee population right here on Long Island.
We Need Your Help: Join Our Data Team!
Because this program relies heavily on meticulous NQI selection protocols and reporting required records, we have a lot of data to track—and we can’t do it alone! We are looking for up to four dedicated volunteers to help us with on-site data recording and tracking.

No Experience Necessary: You don't need to be a seasoned beekeeper or know anything about queen rearing. We will train you on-site on exactly how to use the NQI tracking protocols.

What You’ll Do: Help us accurately document, track, and record the health, temperament, and traits of our hives.

Perks: Get hands-on experience at the absolute cutting edge of honeybee conservation, learn the inner workings of genetic selection, and support sustainable local beekeeping.
